A Greek – Turkish project regarding networking for the promotion of respect for diversity implemented by “Schedia” and the Turkish N.G.O. KEDV (Foundation for the Support of Women’s Work).
The project is supported by the Bernard van Leer Foundation.
The exchange of experiences and know-how between parents and educators in the context of the Greek -Turkish networking project Cybele has started.
In December 2007, a group of parents and educators from Istanbul came to Greece where they met and discussed with parents and educators at the intercultural Center for Creative Activities of the Municipality of Eleusis on issues related to respect for diversity. It was the first opportunity for both parties to explain the way they work with small children and families in their respective countries.
In May 2008, a group of educators and parents from Eleusis went to
Istanbul in order to meet and share experiences with parents and educators through discussions and participation in workshops on artistic activities. The topics of discussion and workshops that centered around the issue of respect for diversity, focused more specifically on ways to a) ensure accessibility to services for all children and families and b) foster children’s freedom of expression. Parents and educators came up with ideas and projects that will reinforce communication among children in Greece and Turky.
In the frame of reinforcing communication among children in Greece and Turkey, children in Eleusis prepared paintings presenting their town as well as the sea, which their parents and educators brought as a gift to the children in Istanbul. At the same time the children in Istanbul had also drawn paintings presenting their families, their city as well as the sea. All these paintings were offered to the guests from Greece in order for them to bring them to the children of Eleusis.
Within the framework of Cybele project, The Centre of Artistic and Pedagogical Training "Schedia" and the Foundation for the Support of Women's Work (KEDV), will organize a conference in Istanbul, on the 27th & 28th of March 2009.
