Children’s Art Exhibition
May - June 2010
The paintings of children from the day-care centers of Palaio Faliro, Rendis, Tavros and Chaidari, were exhibited in the beautiful cultural centre of Palaio Faliro “Floisvos”, situated right by the sea, on May 15 and 16. This was part of a rolling exhibition that moved from Eastern Attica’s Palaio Faliro to
Western Attica ’s Chaidari, in June. The paintings were exhibited in the grounds of Chaidari’s cultural centre “Palataki’, which is adorned with frescoes by the famous Greek painter Gyzis, out in the open air.
The exhibition was the result of seminars for day-care centre educators organized by Schedia, entitled: “Artistic education as a means for the promotion of children’s rights”. The seminars took place during the period October 2009- Μay 2010 within the framework of the Elele III project and were financed by the Bernard van Leer Foundation with the support of the above municipalities. The participating educators expressed great support for the seminars regarding their tangible results in promoting respect for children’s identity and freedom of expression along with cultivating a sense of belonging.
The response to this exhibition by policy makers, educators, parents and children from all four municipalities was enthusiastic. The positive spirit created by the exhibition, and the exchange of views that it triggered among the educators gave an incentive to the educators that participated in the seminars to look forward to growing the impact of their efforts. “See you in September” they said, “we have a lot more to do”.
